Evolving a Legacy —On August 1, 2010, Kenneth Smith assumed the role of President and CEO of District Energy St. Paul and its affiliate companies.
District Energy Earns Top Industry Award — The annual System of the Year Award is the top honor the International District Energy Association can bestow on a public or privately owned district energy system.
On the Right Track —Brian Connolly is the project manager charged with managing the design and construction necessary to facilitate the moving of district energy and district cooling facilities in coordination with the Met Council’s Central Corridor LRT project.
Thermal Renewable Energy and Efficiency Act (TREEA) —Thermal energy accounts for one-third of all energy consumed in the U.S. through the heating and cooling of buildings and industrial processes. This represents an enormous opportunity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, either through renewable thermal energy sources, combined heat and power, or other energy-efficient technologies.
System Balance Made the Difference — Between 2009 and 2010, Central Towers cut its energy use by 50%. Building Engineer, Nick Skrivanek, was instrumental in this project’s success and has plans for even more.
