Minnesota State Capitol Complex
The Minnesota State Capitol Complex is the first in the nation to be heated and cooled primarily by green energy produced at a combined heat and power plant operated by Ever-Green Energy. The complex includes more than 12 buildings located just north of downtown Saint Paul. Most of the buildings were connected to the downtown district heating system in the early 1980s when the system first became operational. In 2005, the State connected its original Capitol Complex buildings and several new facilities to the downtown district cooling system, which began operating in 1993.
