Innovative application of proven technologies has been a hallmark of Ever-Green Energy and its affiliates for 25 years. It has led to the creation of highly efficient, reliable and economical energy systems that successfully use renewable energy to meet the energy needs of their customers.
Combined Heat & Power Plant
Ever-Green Energy operates the largest wood-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant serving a district energy system in the nation. A CHP plant simultaneously produces heat and electricity, making it more than twice as efficient as plants that just generate electricity. The Saint Paul CHP plant is fueled by clean wood waste, a renewable local resource.
The highly successful CHP plant in downtown Saint Paul has been operating since 2003. By using a locally available, renewable fuel to produce energy, the plant has
• reduced fossil fuel (natural gas, coal and oil) usage by more than 60 percent
• significantly reduced carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and particulate emissions
• helped the Twin Cities metro area solve a wood waste disposal problem
• demonstrated the viability of locating a biomass-fueled CHP plant in an urban setting
