Milwaukee Regional Medical Center’s Expansion Marks New Chapter in Partnership with Ever-Green Energy
February 24, 2026 by Ever-Green Energy
Since assuming the role of system operator of Milwaukee Regional Medical Center Thermal (MRMC Thermal) in 2016, Ever-Green Energy has prioritized reliable, exceptional service. Home to Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Centers, at any given time there are 10 life-saving procedures occurring on the 7-million square foot medical campus.
The expectations of the team are clear: the plant needs to stay running. Reliability is not just important, it is essential.
“We continue to demonstrate that the trust our client placed in us was well founded,” reflects Erald Hoshi, Production Manager at MRMC Thermal, on the start of Ever-Green’s operation tenure. “Looking back now, it’s clear that those early days shaped who we are today — a team that doesn’t back down and always delivers when it matters most.”
The Medical Center is entering an exciting new chapter with a largescale expansion and several upgrades to their campus. This includes the installation of a new plant steam boiler, new steam and chilled water laterals to serve a 9-story tower of expanded patient care, as well as connecting recent expansions of two buildings to the system.
The new Center for Forensic Science and Protective Medicine will house the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management. The Versti Blood Research Institute is preparing to occupy a new 79,000 square-foot addition that will double their current research space.
As the campus prepares to offer more vital services to southeastern Wisconsin, the Ever-Green Energy team at MRMC Thermal has offered their expertise and deepened their commitment to delivering when it counts.
Froedtert Hospital’s New Connections
The nationally recognized Froedtert Hospital houses an academic medical center and the adult trauma center. The hospital’s Froedtert Tower 3 (FH3) is a new 9-story tower that extends patient care space and adds a new main lobby with a bridge connection to the parking structure. The Ever-Green team is designing a new steam service for FH3. Serving as Owner’s Representative for MRMC Thermal, the team navigated the decision to replace an existing vault to best optimize safety features. As with any pivot, the team relied on their past experience.
“With every new building on campus, we have to understand how it will impact the campus as a whole,” says Jared Daniel, Distribution System Supervisor at MRMC Thermal. “There have been at least 7 new buildings or expansions of current buildings that have taken place in the nearly 10 years I have been with Ever-Green. We learn something from each project, and we apply that to future projects.”
In anticipation of FH3 joining the steam system, the Ever-Green team correctly saw the need for a new boiler to keep things running smoothly.

Remaining Aligned with MRMC Thermal’s Goals
The Ever-Green team finished design and has now started construction and management services for ‘Boiler 18,’ which is able to produce 70,000 pounds of steam per hour. The natural gas boiler with fuel oil backup moves the system towards its redundancy and resiliency goals, even before the connection takes place.
“Improvements like these allow us to stay ahead of growth, instead of having to catch up to it,” explains Luke Davis, P.E., Senior Engineer at Ever-Green.
“During construction activities, there are always going to be moments of redirection and adaptation,” says Daniel. “We work with the contractors to come up with a plan to safely maintain reliable service to every building on campus. Using our knowledge of the overall systems and existing buildings, we have the experience to help with any issues during new construction startups by using our trending data and giving customer feedback. No project is perfect, and we work with everyone involved to come up with a plan to move forward.”
Prepared for Continued Growth
The expansion is progressing, with the Center for Forensic Science and Protective Medicine expected to be complete in spring of 2026, and the Versti Blood Institute’s expansion on track for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026. The FH3 tower will follow in 2027.
There is no doubt that a facility with such innovative practices as Milwaukee Regional Medical Center will seek further growth. As they look towards future projects, the Ever-Green team is confident they have the depth and expertise to rise to the challenge.
In addition to the MRMC Thermal team on-site, Davis also relies on Ever-Green’s broader systems development team when needed. This allows access to senior distribution engineers, electrical engineering experts, mechanical designers, and more.
“The people I work with day-to-day are very dedicated and have customer success in mind,” he says of both MRMC Thermal and broader Ever-Green teams. “It’s about being resilient and being able to bring the right people into the project. I have full confidence in our team.”
