At Ever-Green Energy, being stewards of the environment is a core value that is foundational to our approach. In celebration of Earth Month, we asked some Ever-Green team members how they see this value in their work and what inspires them about the future of the energy sector. Here’s what they shared:

Phil Bourne

Phil Bourne
Senior Engineer

Ever-Green’s environmental stewardship core value shows up in the work I do on systems to improve efficiency and develop lower temperature district energy systems. For example, I worked on the planning that enabled our Saint Paul operations to be able to commit to carbon neutrality by 2050. I also got to work on the calculations that helped the team at Oberlin College decide between different technology options to reach carbon neutrality by 2025 on their campus. For me what’s inspiring is seeing the projects start to take shape and actualize after all the planning that goes into them.

In my work with customers, we are partnering with them to support their carbon reduction efforts. For example, in Saint Paul we are developing a customer portal that helps customers track and analyze their energy use, which can support energy and carbon savings. The tool will also help customer meet the City’s new benchmarking requirements. What is exciting to me is to see how available technologies and proven practices are being implemented in new ways or at system scale.

For me, Ever-Green’s environmental stewardship shows up in my work leading the environmental health and safety department, in our business development, and in my everyday project work. I’m inspired by how different our projects are, yet they all have similar goals.

This core value shows up in driving carbon reduction by increasing efficiency along with supporting our customers with advancing the system to further reduce emissions. Advanced analytics and machine learning will enable efficiency gains, coupled with electrification of district energy, make me excited for the future of the energy sector. I’m inspired by the real impact increasing efficiency and reducing carbon has on our health care customers and their patients.

The environmental stewardship core value is strongly tied to my role in environmental health and safety, which oversees environmental compliance and promotes responsible stewardship. Projects in the energy sector that make me excited are improving efficiencies and decarbonizing Ever-Green operations.
