Expanding Use of Geothermal at The Heights, Testing Across the Twin Cities Metro
May 28, 2026 by Ever-Green Energy
Once complete, the geothermal system at The Heights development in Saint Paul will heat and cool 1 million square feet. There are 10 total buildings made up of 6 multi-family units and 4 light industrial units.
MinnPost’s Headwinds newsletter has explored growing use of electric heat pumps in Minnesota homes, and now profiles Ever-Green’s efforts to bring the same technology to use on a larger scale.
Utilizing heat exchange with the groundwater can make geothermal systems far more efficient than traditional electric heating systems. District Energy and Ever-Green are looking at implementing geothermal technology across the Twin Cities metro, with feasibility studies underway at Mount Airy Homes in Saint Paul and Rice Creek Commons in Arden Hills.
